Léoville Barton is very concentrated this year: the wine has been highly rated by many critics, but my suspicion is that the intense, extracted style of wine they have made in 2009 may prove a bit too much of a departure for some lovers of this estate's wines. Impressive and enormously tannic, this is one for the long-term - it will need 15 years in the cellar to soften and should keep motoring for 40 years at least. One for the very patient. For those after something more approachable, its stablemate Langoa-Barton is a better bet.
